Dr. Bier trained in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Bastyr University, one of the premier sites of academic training in the country.

He was the founding Dean of two Colleges, the School of Acupuncture at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and the College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine at RainStar University in Phoenix.

For 3 years he both taught and oversaw clinical rotations at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center where he also served as interim Medical Director.

Dr. Bier has also been active in acupuncture research.
He was a board member of the Society for Acupuncture Research,

and lead investigator of the first government-funded trial of the efficacy of acupuncture for use in smoking cessation, which was published in the prestigious American Journal of Public Health.

Dr. Bier was also instrumental in bringing acupuncture licensure to the state of Arizona, where he helped finalize educational and licensing standards.
